Many women know that a purse should match such parts of your wardrobe as your dress and shoes. Many go so far as to ensure the purse matches the fabric of their dress as well. But even the most savvy and fashion conscious women many times make the mistake of buying a purse that doesn’t match their body type. With the various sizes and shapes on the market, the possibilities are almost endless. So it is no wonder that most women don’t know how to match a purse to their body type. But it isn’t an exaggeration to say that a purse can easily change the shape of any woman when selected correctly.

Many women have their own personal preferences about what they feel looks best, but here are some general rules to follow when trying to match a purse to compliment your body type.

You will want to keep in mind that you want to buy a purse that is almost the opposite size of your body type. Women who are both slim and tall can be complimented by larger purses while conversely a smaller purse can help a shorter woman look taller. So for example, a shorter woman wouldn’t want to buy an oversized tote bag.

If you have big hips, but narrow shoulders, you will want to look for a short strapped purse that will draw attention away from your hips. Conversely, if you have smaller hips, but a larger top, then you will want to buy a purse with a longer strap that draws the eyes to your waist.

If you have both narrow hips and a narrow top, you can easily get away with wearing a bulky purse with bold colors and designs. However, if you are more full figured you will want a bigger purse with more muted tones.

Picking a purse for your body type isn’t a perfect science; many times you will find a purse that compliments you perfectly, that goes against all of the advice in this article. However, keep in mind that the rules in this article are just a general guideline and not written in concrete!
